Seldom in the US Government, the
congress calls for a lame duck session. These are essentially a set of lost
candidates trying to frame something for a nation whose voters have long
rejected them. The few weeks of such a session can oscillate from mundane to
dramatic but mostly ends up being a pointless exercise. This in a sense is what
Manchester United has been in the post Sir Alex – a lame duck football club.
Run by a set of owners who fans
have long lost faith in, orchestrated by there lead puppet whose comical
approach can put cartoons to shame and with responsibility entrusted on “has-beens”
or “will-never-be”. No one feels connected to their struggles anymore, it is just
pure annoyance at the blatant destruction of a great institution.
Manchester United today is just
mockery in motion. There is an infinite loop that keeps playing. A new manager
is appointed, transfer promises are made, money is either wasted on wrong targets
or money is not spent, the managers are setup to fail and fail they do, new
manager comes in, we are made to believe mistakes have been learnt and there
will be a more coherent strategy, better stadium, a DOF, but then again the cycle
of failure repeats. Fans revolt online against the club, fans fight with each
other on platforms, fans make themselves the butt of jokes for rival fans. Realize
what it all sounds like – yup – anarchy and banana republic rolled into
something nuclear.
A few years back Liverpool fans
put up a statue of Moyes for his contribution to decimating United, they should
really be erecting a memorial in honour of the Glazers and Woodward for the surgical
strike on what was once Manchester United football club.
Lame Duck FC conceptualized in
2005, erected in 2013 and to continue forever……
P.S: Like I alluded to in my previous
blog in June, every Manager is doomed to fail at United because they are all at
the end managing with both hands tied behind their back. No amount of tactical
nous can help overcome the shambles this football club has now become. Case in
point we are yet to significantly revive a squad which has registered two sixth
place finishes across two different managers in the last three years. Therefore,
we will continue to have the odd high performance surrounded by a plethora of
abject displays. Eventually, it will be a sad day for a football romantic when
we hear the news “Ole has left by mutual consent”.
