Okay, my heading is a little drawn from Game, Set, Match - but thats how relieved i am to see Nadal get the better of Djokovic. Coming back to football, its Squeaky Bum Time on Monday Night. First things first, why would you have the biggest game of the season on a Monday Night. The Premier League is now a truly global sport and the organisers must keep the global audience in mind while scheduling the games. Why they decided, to move it from a Sunday lunchtime kickoff to Monday Night - baffles me no end. Wasn't security one of the reasons why previous Manchester Derbies were lunchtime kickoffs.
Tv timings aside, we have got a classic on our hands on Monday. Typical of United, i always found an 8 point lead to be too good to be true - we never win a title the easy way (what is the fun in that) - and that is exactly how it has turned out. Just like SAF predicted we have dropped surprise points (that man he is a genius!, he should consider astrology after retirement) - and the momentum is now with City.
What makes this such a good game is that United wont go out there for a draw, thanks in no small measure to the 6-1 scoreline earlier this season. And that is where Mancini's chances lie, the Italian is a smart tactician (just look at how he handled his team's formation in the fa cup round tie when they were down to ten men) - they will look to give United a dose of their own counter attacking medicine. Add to that Carlos Tevez, who still feels he has a point to prove when he plays Utd.
My heart would always be with United, but my money may not exactly know which way to go in Manchester. United dont blow away titles, they just win it the hard away. But, in City there is an opponent (yes, not a noisy neighbour anymore!) who wont go down without a fight - just look at the fighting spirit they have shown during all their cup exits this season. What seperates them from Utd, is that when United fight - they win. However, at the Etihad lies an opponent wanting to fight back.
So to all fellow United fans out there, be prepared for a rollercoaster ride (and if you are in India, it will be one that will blow your sleep away). Expect a Tevez goal, which the commentators would say was written in the stars. But, most importantly believe in United till that final whistle is blown. Supporting United is not for the faint hearted, and its going to get a hell of a lot worse on Monday Night. Spare a thought for SAF, been there, done that, yet he jumps as much as we do when a game is on and like he would say its Squeaky Bum Time.
