The United Way

If ever you wanted to truly understand what makes a Manchester United fan - the events of Sunday night can serve as a wonderful reference point. As much as each of us likes to deny it - we love the roller coaster ride - the easy way is simply not our way!! Imagine if Young's goal had been allowed and we had gone on to win 3-0, sure we would have been delighted - but the ecstacy we felt at the final whistle would have been missing! Us fans are a mirror reflection of the club we support, yes we have the will to dominate, the desire to win, but we hate it if there is no one challenging us, no 'perch' for us to conquer. Its a wonderful quality to have- for in sport as in life - what seperates the good from the great is often the appetite for a fight. I am absolutely sure, that all of us (Utd fans) would have taken a while to celebrate the 1st goal, but, the second goal would have got us screaming out of our backsides. Oh yes, we were beginning to realize a dream to conquer...

Chin Up

For all the stoppage time heartbreaks we gave to City, they gave us the biggest one! United ended their season at the Stadium of Light as champions, the only problem was that the season was far from over at the Etihad. Watching United in the second half was an emotional roller coaster of epic proportions, as City continued to trail, United missed chance after chance and you just wondered if we were going to pay for it. All the customary match superstitions were being played out by United fans all around the globe - from their seating position, to some who did not switch channels to catch the City-QPR score, to those who were controlling their celebrations till the title was done - just to ensure they don't 'jinx it'  for their beloved team. It was heartstopping at times, when the clock reached 80 minutes - the nervousness was reaching fever peak, subconsciously we were preparing ourselves "for the biggest celebration of our lives". But the sucker punch came onl...

Title, Manchester, Match

Okay, my heading is a little drawn from Game, Set, Match - but thats how relieved i am to see Nadal get the better of Djokovic. Coming back to football, its Squeaky Bum Time on Monday Night. First things first, why would you have the biggest game of the season on a Monday Night. The Premier League is now a truly global sport and the organisers must keep the global audience in mind while scheduling the games. Why they decided, to move it from a Sunday lunchtime kickoff to Monday Night - baffles me no end. Wasn't security one of the reasons why previous Manchester Derbies were lunchtime kickoffs. Tv timings aside, we have got a classic on our hands on Monday. Typical of United, i always found an 8 point lead to be too good to be true - we never win a title the easy way (what is the fun in that) - and that is exactly how it has turned out. Just like SAF predicted we have dropped surprise points (that man he is a genius!, he should consider astrology after retirement) - an...
